Mr. Boro Appliance recently completed a GE dryer repair for a customer in Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37127. The customer reported that the dryer was heating up but was not drying clothes properly. Even though heat was being produced, the clothes were still not getting dry as expected.
The appliance was a GE dryer, model GTD42EASJ2WW. Because the dryer was still producing heat, our technician needed to inspect the unit and determine what was preventing normal drying performance.
The customer explained that the dryer would heat but apparently was not producing enough effective drying performance to fully dry the clothes.
A dryer needs more than heat to dry clothing properly. It also depends on strong airflow to move heated air through the drum and remove moisture from wet clothes. When airflow is reduced, a dryer may still feel hot while clothes remain damp or require multiple cycles to dry.
During the inspection, our technician found excessive lint buildup in the blower area. We also discovered that the blower had come loose.
The blower is an important part of the dryer airflow system. It helps move air through the dryer drum and toward the exhaust system. When the blower becomes loose or cannot operate correctly, the dryer may continue producing heat while struggling to move enough air to dry clothes efficiently.
In this case, the excessive lint buildup around the blower area contributed to the problem and needed to be cleared before the blower could be properly reinstalled.
Our technician cleared the excessive lint buildup from the blower area and properly reinstalled the loose blower.
After the blower was secured, we tested the GE dryer to verify operation. The blower was working properly again, and the dryer returned to normal operation.
This repair is a good example of why a dryer that heats but does not dry clothes should be properly diagnosed before expensive parts are replaced. The heating system was producing heat, but the blower and airflow issue was preventing effective drying.
A dryer that gets hot but leaves clothing damp may have several possible causes, including:
The exact cause should be diagnosed before replacing parts because several different problems can create similar symptoms.
